I've become open to a depressingly common experience in Black America. Something all Black people know of intimately, but we never like to talk about it because many still live the horror today. The horror of the hood. Imagine losing 16 of your friends in one year. Imagine being shot AT 7 times. Imagine having to kill someone. Imagine knowing that your life is only pain and loss, and will forever only be pain and loss. When you wake up, you wake up to a nightmare. I wanted to encapsulate that in this artwork. The feeling of being in a perpetual, twisted hell and knowing very well your time is coming. Soon.
