“Cuba, Key to the Gulf” - Catherine Susana Esprit

La Habana, Cuba. Capital City. 
Sancti Spíritus is the city of my birth. My parents were enrolled in the University of Medical Sciences of Sancti Spíritus at the time, where I spent half of my time. The other half was at home with them, my grandmother Susana, and the rest of my maternal family. Though Cuba has gone through much political and economic strife, the people remain powerful and colorful in their culture and soul. I believe that one day soon we will achieve economic prosperity and freedom, and I will be able to go home without the fear of not being allowed to leave. 
 
Ciego de Ávila is my mother’s birthplace. Characterized by an orange-tinted soil that she claims would not get out of her clothes. Orange is her favorite color.
