Sankofa - Corey Williams

18" x 20"

Canvas

Some salvaged material

The image represents the change that is going to happen with a statue in Downtown Gainesville, Florida that replaces "Old Joe". The image is of a "Sankofa". According to Wikipedia, Sankofa is often associated with the proverb, “Se wo were fi na wosankofa a yenkyi," which translates as: "It is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten." To Me it means, "to reach back and learn the teachings from our elders to teach the children of the future".
