Carson, a professor of humanities at the University and a watercolorist.41 Dr. Carson, who taught at the University of Michigan and Stephens College before coming to Gainesville, would spend the end of a lecture period painting a landscape for his three hundred students, and finishing it in twenty minutes, give it to a student after class.42” – The Artists of Old Florida 1840-1960 by Alfred R. Frankel.

Dr. Robert Carson, or “Doc” as many called him, Dr. Robert Carson, or “Doc” as many called him, was a humanities professor from 1946-1971. He served as the President of GFAA from 1957-1959. Doc was a self-taught artist who began working in watercolors at the age of 35. His works can be found in galleries, other public spaces and in private collections.
