Untitled - Diamond Kinard

Acrylic on Canvas

Within my art, I navigate a deep connection with Renaissance sculpture, yet find myself estranged due to the absence of Black representation. This painting becomes a canvas of emotion, housing a sculpture inspired by the iconic statue from Emancipation Park. Through my brushstrokes, I aim to convey the poignant struggle of reconciling admiration for classical art with the glaring void of Black narratives. This piece serves as a reflection on the broader theme of the erasure of Black history in higher public education, urging viewers to confront the impact of underrepresentation within our cultural tapestry.
