Jesse Aaron
1887-1979

Jesse Aaron, an American sculptor and wood carver, Jesse Aaron, an American sculptor and wood carver, started making art in his early 80s. He received a Visual Arts Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and his creations are in collections of various museums, such as the High Museum of Art and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art.

An article in the Alligator on May 30, 1979 An article in the Alligator on May 30, 1979 described Jesse’s friendship with UF Art Professor Stuart Purser, who noticed and appreciated his work and arranged his first public art show.

Both he and his sculpture were in demand. He did a lot of traveling, when he could, taking his shows all around the country. CBS put him on TV once. He was made a member of the Gainesville Fine Arts Association, and rubbed elbows with important people. The governor, the attorney general and the mayor all knew him and wrote congratulations and high-faluting admirations of his art. – Jonathan Susskind, The Alligator, May 30, 1979.
